April – What Are The Top Three Things You’d Recommend To A Friend This Month?

by Carly Jacobs
My aunty once told me about her old boss and the unusual gift registry she had on her 50th birthday. She asked each of her friends to give her what they were currently into for a birthday present. For example a book they’d recently read, a TV series they were addicted to, a CD of their favourite songs, a voucher to a great new restaurant they’d discovered. It was such a great way to get to know her friends a Read the rest!

Things I Learned at The Library

by Carly Jacobs
Yesterday I went to my local library to stock up on books because of my self-inflicted 9pm screen ban. I haven’t been to the library in years. They really are quite wonderful places despite the fact that they smell like floppy disks mixed with wet pillows. In fact the whole trip debunked a few assumptions I had about libraries. Most people have been irreparably scarred, either physically or emotionally by the Read the rest!

9 Observations from Re-watching Ghost Whisperer as An Adult

by Carly Jacobs
Okay. I’ve officially hit the rock bottom on Netflix. I’m over Dawson’s Creek now. Once everyone has dated everyone at least once all the magic disappears from the show. I’ve now moved on to Ghost Whisperer. It has the most shallow plot of any television show I’ve ever watched but for your entertainment, as well as my own, I’m going to dissect the storyline. Don’t feel like Read the rest!

How To Celebrate Christmas When You Don’t Have a Giant Family

by Carly Jacobs
Image I come from a close, rather large-ish family. Christmas day for me is usually a cocktail fuelled shit storm of screaching aunties, mental cousins, men cooking meat, too much food, intensely competitive card games and embarrassingly enough the day usually ends with a weird loungeroom disco where we all dance like we’re Beyonce’s backup. There’s rarely less than 25 of us and it’s fabulo Read the rest!

7 Best Fitness and Health Apps

by Carly Jacobs
Being the significant other of an app developer I can safely say I’m an app whore. I have no qualms with paying $2 for an app just to see if I like it and I often lie in bed and browse the app store for the latest developments. I particularly love calendar, productivity and fitness apps. I’ve tried about 20 or 30 different fitness apps and these are by far the best I’ve come across. 7 Best Fitness Read the rest!

Bunny Ears In Thailand For The Blogcademy.

by Carly Jacobs
Waaaay back when I first started blogging I only read about three or four blogs regularly because believe it or not, there just weren’t that many bloggers. I read Susie Bubble, Fat Mum Slim, Style Bytes (sadly she stopped blogging many years ago but you can still get her content from April 2007 backwards on her blog) and Gala Darling. I discovered Gala one day when I was working full time at the University of Read the rest!

Why Don’t You… Have Lunch At A Pub?

by Carly Jacobs
Image & Feature Image   Why don’t you…? See a play? Instead of your usual Friday night movie? Get all dolled up? Have a glass of wine and a sweet treat at interval? Eat things on toast? Tomato? Ham? Avocado? Nutella? Start signing your name with a tiny personalised doodle? A little heart? A dandelion? Little bird feet prints? Have lunch at a pub? Have a pint and pie? Keep a wooden chest of del Read the rest!

Cheats Treat: A Super Easy Dessert That Looks Way Fancier Than It Is.

by Carly Jacobs
Have you ever flippantly made a promise that you’d bring a fancy dessert to a dinner party and then completely forgot all about it? Then you find yourself with half an hour before the party and you’re trying to figure out if you can smoosh a frozen apple pie into a glass dish and pretend you made it? I’ve made this casual promise twice in the last two weeks and I’ve been twice saved by this Read the rest!

How to Wear a Vest For Men

by Carly Jacobs
The post is in collaboration with Jacamo.  I genuinely feel sorry for men when it comes to clothes shopping. Women have ten times the options at way more competitive price points. For men, unless you can afford to shop at Harold’s you’re going to have to get a little creative. Enter the vest. It’s the perfect in between seasons piece that will effortlessly add an air of awesome to your ensemble Read the rest!

How Impatient Are You With Waiting For Online Purchases To Arrive?

by Carly Jacobs
I’m a veteran online shopper, in fact I rarely buy things in retail stores any more unless it’s an impulse purchase. I buy basics, shoes, underwear, clothing and make-up online. It’s so much easier than having to go shopping to a mall. I find bricks and mortar retail shopping quite difficult because I can’t type in my search term. I’m serious. Do you know how long it takes to locat Read the rest!
