What To Wear When You Sit Down All Day

What To Wear When You Sit Down All Day

hy is dressing for work so damn hard? The worst part is getting dressed in the morning, feeling super comfortable and then not realising the waist band of your skirt is going to dig into your belly button all day. There some people in life who don’t seem to experience the same levels of discomfort as the rest of us. These are the type of people who can wear spray on pants and platform heels for 12 hours straight without so much as a whisper of complaint. I’m not one of those people. I once had a stray thread wrap itself around my big toe and I kicked my shoe off so forcefully in my haste to free my biggest piggy, that my shoe flew straight into the middle of the road and got run over by a car. I loathe being uncomfortable. This is why I can’t cope when I see people fall asleep wearing shoes or earrings. I just want to free their bodies from their clothing shackles and wrap them in a cuddly blanket. Being comfortable is a basic human right as far as I’m concerned. That’s why I’m all about jersey style clothing, elastic waists and breathable fabrics when I’m at work.

This outfit was worn for my first day back in the office after being away for a week. I got up super early to meet my mate for a coffee and was at my desk at 8am getting a head start sending off emails for interviews for the next edition of Secret Bloggers Business Magazine. Then I had a working lunch with my girl Kate and we ate Moroccan lamb soup and made some pretty sweet plans for the next few months. I bloody love my blogging office buddies. They’re the best. It was rainy and delicious by the time I got home and Mr Smaggle made me his famous crusty fish for dinner. I ended the day with a sneaky bit of crochet on the couch with a cup of tea while the rain poured outside. Lovely.

What’s your favourite work outfit? Any tips for super comfort when you sit at a desk all day?

Thank you for asking about my favourite outfit because, as it happens I find myself in Italy and I have purchased the most perfect pair of shoes for work. I cannot do heels as I clock up about 6,000 steps walking around our Childcare services. I’ve purchased some little silver numbers with blue laces… Will look awesome with my everyday shades of black with the occasional pops of blue and yellow for contrast…red lipstick rules! I’m on fire!

Those shoes sound perfect! I was the same when I was a teacher – had to wear flats because I couldn’t walk around the school all day like that. I haven’t changed much since writing full time either to be honest. I think I’m just all in to the comfort these days.

My “go to” office ensemble is leggings with a tunic top, and boots, or black “dress” trousers with a button through blouse (and again, my boots).
I walk to the office (around 10 minutes, depending on how I’m feeling), so comfort is a must. But, I also work in a small country town, so work clothes are much more casual than the would be for the same job in Sydney.

Isn’t it funny how location plays such a huge part in how we dress? My mate is going to a country ball next weekend and she can’t figure out what to wear. She’s not sure if country formal is more formal than city formal – totally legit question right?

I need reminding of this! Being at uni full, full time this semester and doing so much assignment writing plus a day in the office means I’m sitting all week! My beloved jeans just don’t work and at the end of the day I can’t wait to take them off! Going to have to rejig my wardrobe!

I’ve never understood people who say that they’re most comfortable in jeans. I hate anything at all being around my waist so I’m a dress girl always. Even at my thinest pants and jeans just never felt comfy.

That does look really comfy! I have issues with comfort, too. I don’t even like wearing layers in Winter because they make me fidgety, and as soon as I get home all the jewellery comes off. I only wear my wedding ring when I leave the house (at least hubby is the same). Weird, hey!

I can’t stand wearing jewellery at home – it all comes off the second I enter the house. I have a friend who sleeps in giant earrings and it drives me bonkers.

That top is amazing and is going straight onto my “must purchase soon!” list!

I’m completely loving uneven layers lately. Tops that are long at the front but with big splits up the back or sides paired with long cardigans. Flat shoes always.

Yes! I love uneven layers – this top is current season at Target so be quick! x

I must be a weirdo. I don’t understand why anyone would buy uncomfortable clothing. However, I don’t understand why some people dress for the office as if they were 1) clubbing 2) stripping 3) sleeping on their couch 4) raking leaves or mowing the lawn. Looking professional, pulled together, and stylish doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. I love vintage clothing, so I always try to work in a vintage (or vintage-inspired) piece. Fit is very important to me. I like fitted clothing, but I am keenly aware of fitted vs. tight.

Oh yes! There’s a world of difference between fitted and tight and I totally agree. You don’t have to look like a farmer to be comfortable at work.
