What To Wear Under A Winter Coat

What To Wear Under A Winter Coat

I

t’s well and truly winter Melbourne. I feel this is the coldest winter we’ve had in ages. I’m sure I’m making that up but it feels bitter. I’ve been wearing my coat non-stop, all day. I rent a desk in a large warehouse style office and it’s freezing. I also have to get public transport there and back which is also usually freezing. Outside is freezing and so is my house. It’s all very, very cold which means I’m wrapped in my navy down jacket pretty much all day. We legged it to Bendigo over the weekend and it was pretty much the same story there.

What to wear under a winter coat…

Thin layers of warm fabrics. I’m a sucker for thermals and I often wear hardcore winter camping weight thermals under my clothes.

Something cute. Most places totally overheat in winter so you’ll need to have something presentable looking you can strip down to when it gets too hot.

Something breathable. Natural fibres are amazing in winter because they keep you warm and they allow your body and skin to breathe.

We spent last weekend in beautiful Bendigo and it was unbelievably lovely. We went to the Marilyn Exhibition – totally worth going to and spent our days wandering around the town. We’ll be having quiet one this weekend. I’m catching up with one of my mates who’s visiting Canberra tonight but I plan on making love to my couch for the rest of the weekend.

OMG, I can not get warm this winter. I’ve finally stumbled upon a uniform for staying warm at work; I can’t wear anything bulky cos it’s all gotta go under a lab coat so a long sleeve cotton top that’s cute enough to wear on it’s own plus a merino cardigan/sweater are my go just right now. Replace lab coat with woolen peacoat for when I head outdoors and I’m almost comfortable!

Imma hankering real bad for some sunshine and warmth…..

Merino is fabric of the gods. I love it so much. So thin and so warm. I hit up Kathmandu all the time for their thermals they’re the best!

That’s funny. Here in the US we are just starting Summer. Where I live, its winter for like 8 months. I’m a summer girl – always cold! One thing that I found that helps is to either tuck in your thermal, or wear a tank top tucked in as your bottom layer. It keeps the cold air from filtering in under your clothes. Wear fleece as your top layer.

Thank heaven thermals have gotten thinner, more comfortable, and cuter!

I’m a tucker from way back! If I get into bed before Mr Smaggle I tuck my top into my bottoms to keep me warm. It’s SUPER sexy!

It’s still quite nice here in Brisbane at the moment…I am not looking forward to how much I am going to freeze when I head down to Melbourne for work next week!! Although as a bonus I get to wear my coat which just sits in the cupboard throughout the Queensland winter!

Oh I love it when Queenslanders get excited about coats. You poor chickens rarely get to wear them. 🙂

Just starting to get cold here, so have dragged out my boots, tights and layering essentials. i love my Ambra body slips – so warm and bonus, they hold and smooth. Only trouble with layering is all the extra time you have to allow to go pee. Takes me ages to get everything sorted again! xx

I have those slips too! I love them – I actually need to stock up on them! I wear a firm body slip every day. It’s just a weird thing I have.

Ooh that cowl is stunning! Any chance I could get the pattern? And what kind of wool did you use? 🙂
