I’m the worst fashion blogger in the world. I used totter around on these enormous heels and wear skin tight jeans to my desk job back in 2008. Then I taught at special needs schools for a few years. The grottiest places on earth – I’d come home every afternoon covered in dirt, glitter, glue, paint, pancake mix and a whole lot of other stuff I won’t mention unless you get me drunk enough.
So I basically looked like a homeless farmer for a few years. Now I work for myself, technically back to a desk job, I kind of assumed I’d go all badass business owner with my style but if anything I’ve kind of slipped sideways into sensible-but-trying-to-be-stylish person.
Dress from Marimekko * Shoes from Merryl * Bag from Nancy Bird
This is my current state of fashion…
– Pretty much everything I buy has to be stretchy. I’ve been roughly the same size for the last decade but I’m just over wearing anything tight. Jersey gal all the way.
– I need to be able to jump a fence/comfortably have a nap in every outfit. I’m inherently an extremely fomo person and if I was wearing high heels when spontaneously everyone decided to go go-karting and I couldn’t do it because of my shoes, I’d be really sad.
– I don’t wear any where near as much black. I’ve been a black lover for my entire life but it’s just not tooting my horn anymore. I haven’t worn head to toe black in about a year. And I like it.
– I must be able to walk all day in every pair of shoes I wear, even if I’m going out for a fancy dinner. I walk everywhere so it’s totally not-negotiable.
– My only weird thing is that I won’t wear yoga pants in real life. I don’t even own yoga pants. When I exercise it’s pretty hardcore so I need to wear super tight skins – yoga pants just fall down when I jump around. When I relax at home I wear Peter Alexander loose PJ pants.
What about you? What’s your go to comfy outfit? Something that feels like a full body ugg-boot?

Love your style Smags … it was what connected me with you way back when. I was drawn to your confidence in what you wore. That confidence in your own style has just got even greater as it’s evolved over the years. I LOVE that.

Yep, I’m with you on stretchy clothes – most comfy invention ever. Love my leggings tunics and Earthies chara boots to wear to work in winter. Like going to work in uggs and trackie dacks xx

I’m with you on the shoes. I find even walking to and from the car I need to feel comfy!

The rebuilding of Sydney has added a 15 minute walk twice a day to my commute and as a result comfortable shoes are an absolute necessity. Basically I’m dressing around my shoes.

I actually have zero tolerance for anything uncomfortable these days. I also own like 2 pairs of shoes that get worn every day because I don’t want to risk wearing uncomfortable ones! 🙂

The older I get, the less fucks I give about how flattering something is, in favour of how comfortable it is. I’m so much happier having switched from wearing 1950s stuff to the 1920s, these days I just throw on an oversized drop waist cotton dress and I’m good! I look back at my early 20s and shudder at the diet plans I stuck to and the uncomfortable clothes I wore. I still love wearing heels though, however I always carry a pair of plain flats in my bag for when plans change. Also, you look like a total bad ass who just got off those bikes in the background to take this photo.

Ha! I didn’t even notice! My hair has kind of changed it’s curly so I do look a bit more rocker these days. Can’t say I hate it! I love heels too – just never seem to have to chance to wear them! I love your 20s look – it’s gorgeous!

I just found “Smaggle” and I’m so glad I did. What a lovely corner of the internet. You brighten up any topic – even one as sad as not being able to wear yoga pants on a daily basis…
