Everyone Hates These Shoes… But I Love Them

Everyone Hates These Shoes… But I Love Them

any years ago when I graduated from my jewellery course, I bought myself a pair of Trippen shoes. Trippen is a German brand and their shoes perfectly reflect everything that is awesome about Germany. Straight forward, no bullshit, interesting, functional and unlike anything else.

I was recently in Germany and I thought it would be super rude not to buy another pair. I’ve had so much wear out of my first pair (you can see them here, here and here) and I thought I’d just have a bit of a gander if there were any shoes that took my fancy.

There were many, many shoes that took my fancy. All of them to be precise. I found these beauties at their outlet store. That’s right – a Trippen outlet store. I nearly fell over when I saw it.

The weird thing about Trippen shoes is that people like to tell me they don’t like them. It’s really weird but it seems to be a whole thing. It’s also usually close friends that tell me. They’ll be like ‘Oh I meant to tell you, I’m not a huge fan of those German shoes you like.’ I don’t really care what anyone thinks about my clothing but I find it so odd that these shoes cop the brunt of outfit judgement. I also love it when my friends are honest about my outfits but I have heaps weirder stuff in my wardrobe than Trippens… it’s an odd little thing isn’t it? My goal is to wear these babies in so I can walk in them all day. I find wooden soles very comfortable, I just have to soften the leather enough for every day wear. Wish me luck!

I’m having a rather lovely and productive week this week. I’m Oct-sobering so the weekend was spent drinking lots of tea and cooking nice things at home. I also hosted the first ever live lesson of Crochet Coach it was so much fun! Look at the amazing things my members are making.

Aren’t they incredible? If you’re keen to join the ranks of the Crochet Coach crew you can join here. The next live lesson is going to be Christmas decorations so don’t miss out if you’re looking to do something gorgeous for Christmas this year.

I’ve also had a few requests for some more recommendations so I’d thought I’d include a round up each week of stuff I like…

WatchingMr Robot. It’s so good. Very creepy. Love it.

ListeningTo Sword and Scale. It’s a podcast about gory stuff. I’m very bleak but this stuff keeps me sane when I’m doing stuff like cleaning the house.

ReadingAngels of Death by Emily Webb. It’s about medical practitioners who kill their patients. Maybe I’ve missed my calling as a true crime writer. I cannot get enough of this stuff.

Crocheting – Scarves! All the scarves. I’m putting together a beginner section for Crochet Coach so I’m slamming through them.

Eating – Boiled eggs. Mr Smaggle has perfected the art of boiling them so they peel well and I have one before the gym every morning. Eggs are the best.

What have you been up to this week? What are you watching, reading and eating?

I don’t understand why people don’t like those shoes. They’re cute. Comfortable too? That’s a bonus!

Gosh, I haven’t crocheted in years! Love the work they are doing. Someday I might have time to do that again.

It was a cooking weekend. I made chicken fajitas an pumpkin bread. I gave up drinking years ago. A sober life is much more fulfilling. And much less fattening. I lost a ton of weight after I quit. Kudos!

I’m not sure if I could ever go sober properly. I love having a nice glass of wine with dinner and I rarely drink more than 2 nights a week but sometimes it sneaks up on me and I end up meeting at the pub midweek and it’s just a no go. Also I’m in hardcore crunch mode at the moment and even 2 glasses of wine makes me feel less than fresh the next day which I just can’t afford at the moment!

I agree with Carole…don’t understand why people are hating on your shoes. I’d have a pair.

Watching – White Collar. Down to the last season now.
Reading – The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. Not exactly a quick read but truly beautiful prose.
Eating – Leftovers. Went on a cooking spree and have been eating all the leftovers for the last few days.

I bloody love left overs. I wish I had an endless supply – but then they wouldn’t really be left overs.

Rock those shoes!! At least they’re different! it’s all about the attitude of the wearer, I think!
I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls. I am up to the last episode – OH MY STARS. I don’t want it to end! Thankfully there’s a reunion special coming!
I’ve been reading Amy Schumer’s Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo. I love her!
Eating better, I hope! I’m making a concerted effort with my healthy living this school term (as a school mum it just seems natural to base it around better routines)! x

Thank you! I might actually recycle it – no one important saw me that day!

It’s weird when people feel the need to tell you they hate something. I make it a rule to never say anything negative about people’s clothing unless it’s pre-purchase when they ask for an opinion.

  1. […] Shoes from Trippen – I bought these in Germany last year and I adore them. They’re really comfy and I get compliments every time I wear them. I also get lots of non-compliments but that’s the price you pay for wearing weird shit.  […]
