Daddy Smaggle is one of the most easily pleased men on the planet. I can buy him a bag of liquorice all-sorts and a few hankies and he acts as if he’s won the lottery. I once bought him a pair of socks from Paris that had the Mona Lisa on them and he wore them for ten years until Mama Smaggle confiscated them and threw them away. I still enjoy trying to buy him awesome gifts though so I thought I’d knock together a shopping list for inspiration and also for you guys, to take the guess work out of shopping for your dad (or hubby!) this Father’s Day.

What do you plan on getting your dad for Father’s Day this year? Is he fussy? Or super easy to buy for?

My dear dad is in his 80s and has been downsizing for the past few years. I struggle each year to come up with birthday and Christmas gifts. I have had a few successes with”experience” gifts – whale watching cruise, high tea at the Dorchester (his birthday was right before he and my stepmom took off for UK holiday). For Father’s Day usually I phone and have a good old chat- or if I can manage to gather the whole clan together, will have a big family BBQ. No matter what day it is, I love him to bits.

Me too! I’m super close to my dad. He’s in his late 50s (very young!) and he snowboards and listens to rock music. He’s the best. I love the idea of an experience gift… I’ll have to consider that for his 60th!

My dear old Dad has just turned 87. He has told me a million times that when he was a little boy he used to climb the highest tree he could find, and hide up there with his book and packet of lollies. He hasn’t changed! Well, not so much the tree climbing but he still gets up on the roof to check for leaks and look at how much the skyline has changed since he and Mum bought the house 1952! So, I will be buying him books, lollies, chocolates because that’s what he loves, plus a few things that he will say ‘you shouldn’t have spent your money on me lovey – I don’t need anything’ about. So I guess, presents for him, and presents that are really for me because I love spoiling him! Kathryn 🙂

Oh my gosh the comments on here have been just lovely! That’s so sweet of you. My dad also loves lollies. It’s adorable. He’ll go to get petrol and come back with a bag of Morella jubes. I swear I’m the only grown person who thinks my dad is the cutest thing in the world.

Ack, you are AMAZING! The guitar amp tin is absolutely fantastic. The hubs will now be getting this for his birthday and will be in awe if it’s awesomeness (He’s so hard to shop for too, so this is just the best!)

I’m going to sound like an arse, but I’m SO happy we don’t have local father’s day here, because my father is extremely fussy. There’s a ‘defender of the fatherland day’ that’s kind of an equivalent, but my father insists it’s just for those who served in the military, so I’m left with New Year’s and his birthday. That’s one less thing to buy for him.
Technically I can get away with just buying any and all Beatles paraphernalia, but even that becomes harder and harder to do every year as his collection grows bigger and bigger and he becomes even fussier with age. 😛
