* Dress from Melko on Brunswick Street in Melbourne but you can get it online here * Tights from Big W * Frye boots from Amazon * Bangles from various places * Coin necklace from my grandfather *
I’m starting to get more and more into patterns recently which is huge for me because I’m such a colourphobe. It’s a great way for me to get out of my macabre black and grey staples and dress like a young woman in my 20s instead of a mourning widow. I just really can’t stand solid blocks of colour on myself. It just looks so wrong to me.
Do you have weird colour rules that you unconsciously follow? Do you always reach for the same colours when you go shopping?

I have a colour rule – black or it doesn’t get worn. I have a bajillion black dresses. Seriously. I love love love that dress on you but on me it would be considered a top. I don’t wear anything above the knee, even with opaques.

Ahahahaha Kitty I was going to leave the same comment.
I’m actually painfully OCD when it comes to colour which is a lot of the reason I wear black almost exclusively. Colours have to match just so, I can’t clash them. So I require either a wardrobe of fifty bajillion variously coloured items or a minimal wardrobe of black (peppered with a tiny bit of grey and white).
When I was 7 I had a pair of Nike Air sneakers that were insanely cool for the time – they were white with lavender Nike “tick” logo’s on them. I could NOT wear those sneakers with anything other than white or lavender socks. It didn’t matter what else I was wearing, I was so OCD about it. My mother actually had to buy me more lavender socks.

Hah. Yes. As a Wellingtonian and a recovering Goth… well, if it ain’t black I’m highly suspicious.
The only exceptions for me are scarves and jewellery – I always get compliments on my beautifully patterned scarves, and I’m aiming to collect more colourful jewellery. It’s a good way to be a bit less dour while still keeping within my black and grey comfort zone.
The only other rule is NO WHITE. No. Never. Ew. It looks awful on me.

LOVE that dress! Gorgeous!

I’m imposing a new colour rule on myself: I am limiting myself to a colour pallet of Navy (80%), Black (10%), Burnt Orange (5%) and off white (5%). We’ll see how that works out for me…
Also – those tights are blowing my mind! How clever to print on such things!

I am a Melbourne girl, so I’m all about black! But I’ve realised that it higlights the black circles under my eyes, and washes out my face when I wear it on my top half, so I’m trying to mix it up a little.
I am also all about red (blue-red) as I know it looks great on me. When I find something in a great style, in that colour, I find it so tough to walk past!

Ah just found this! I think it’s a 3 or a 4… it’s fairly generous in size! Just a lil’ tip though it doesn’t wash very well. x
